Kurt Bates

Kurt has spent more than a decade welcoming families through the doors of children’s ministry, and his philosophy hasn’t changed: every child who walks in should feel seen, safe, and genuinely glad to be there. As Children’s Ministry Director, he oversees everything from curriculum and classroom care to check-in security — but his favorite part of any Sunday is still kneeling down to learn a kid’s name and what made them laugh that week.

Before joining Mamreh, Kurt served in roles spanning preschool care, elementary teaching, and volunteer training, which gave him a deep respect for both the joyful chaos of a Sunday classroom and the trust parents place in their children’s leaders. He’s a firm believer that great ministry is built on preparation: prayed-over lessons, well-equipped volunteers, and clear, calm communication with families from the moment they arrive.

Most of all, Kurt loves partnering with parents. He sees the ministry not as a program that runs apart from the home, but as a team effort to help children know, love, and follow Jesus. When you visit, you’ll likely find him near the check-in desk — ready to answer questions, walk you to the right room, and make sure your family’s first Sunday feels like a warm welcome.
